How to .....

A brief explanation of how to use our products to achieve perfect results everytime.

Explains how to work out the number of tiles you need.

How many tiles do I need...
To work out the number of tiles you need: Multiply the width of your room or roof by the depth, this will give you sq.in, then divide by the the coverage of the tiles. Example: For a roof ( 1 side) 17" x 10" this would give you 170 sq.in, divide by the tile coverage (Viscountess Roof Slates) 59 sq.in and round up to the next whole number, in this case 3.
How do I cut and fix the tiles ...
To cut the tiles use either a small craft saw or junior hacksaw. It is important that you DO NOT use a knife as this will cause them to split at the edge. Use a sandpaper block or emery board for smoothing edges. Use a small amount of PVA wood glue to fix them and wipe any surplus glue away with a damp cloth.
How do I lay floor tiles ...
First make a template of the room using thin card ( cereal box is ok ). You then stick the tiles onto the template by starting at the front row using a small amount of PVA glue on each tile, ensure that each tile butts up against the previous tile. Wipe any surplus glue off straight away with a damp cloth. Should you need to cut a tile then use either a craft or junior hacksaw. If you are laying the Octagonal tiles with the small inserts, glue the insert in whole on the edges and leave the glue to dry, when dry sand it level using an emery board or sandpaper block.
How do I grout the floor tiles ...
This applies to single colour tiles only, we do not recommend grouting of the 2 colour or cctagonal tiles. Once you have finished laying all your tiles you will need to seal them before you begin grouting, this is to prevent the colour from the tile mixing with the grouting. To seal the tiles you will need a mixture 1/3rd PVA glue to 2/3rd water, mix well and apply to the whole floor with a small artists brush. Once dry, mix a small quantity of grout mixture with water until it is a nice creamy consistency. Apply the grout mixture with a damp cloth in a circular motion, small area at a time ( 3" x 3" ), then remove the surplus grout mixture using a clean damp cloth. Continue the same process until you have grouted the complete floor, leave to dry.
